Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has demanded an immediate investigation into the facts of abuse of office in the defense sector, which were made public by journalists, the press service of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko (BPP) parliamentary faction has said.

“He also said the investigation should start as early as today. ‘Where is [National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine] NABU, where is [NABU chief Artem] Sytnyk?!’ – Poroshenko acted as a strong political leader because [one of the persons named in the journalists’ probe – First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleh] Hladkovsky was fired and a case was lodged with NABU immediately,” head of the BPP faction Artur Herasymov said on ICTV.

Herasymov says that Hladkovsky’s dismissal does not mean the acknowledgment of his guilt, neither is it the acknowledgment that the journalists’ investigation is fake. However, he said, the investigation should be conducted by NABU because people trust it and it is not dependent on anybody.

“Therefore, NABU should conduct an urgent investigation, because the public needs to know the truth,” he added.

Herasymov said that the president’s position is that the army is the highest priority for the state. “Those who stole from the army will be in jail. Their senior positions won’t save them,” Herasymov said.
