Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia will resume talks over the conflict in Donbas after the March 31 presidential election in Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko said.

“We will immediately resume the ‘Normandy format’ talks and implement the security component. Once this is implemented, we will have the political section, where those living in Donbas will be able to elect a local government for themselves,” Poroshenko told the Ukraina television channel on March 22 evening.

Kyiv will raise the issue of introducing UN peacekeepers right after the presidential election, he said.

Asked how long it would take to end the war in eastern Ukraine, Poroshenko said: “I am not going to repeat the mistake that was made in 2014. My response will be absolutely clear: the key to peace is not in Kyiv, because it is not our troops on Russian territory, the key to peace is not in Brussels nor in Washington, the key to peace is at the Kremlin.”
