Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expects that the French people will choose a team which intends to strengthen the country within the European Union and take an active position on restoration of peace in Ukraine.

“Looking forward to French people’s choice in favor of strong France in united Europe and active stance on restoration peace in Ukraine,” Poroshenko wrote on Twitter on April 24.

Emmanuel Macron, the candidate from the En Marche (Forward) movement, is leading in the first round of the French presidential election with 23.7 percent of the vote. The ultra-right candidate, Marine le Pen, is the first runner-up, with almost 21.53 percent. Both candidates will participate in the second round of the election on May 7.
