Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that he supports Ulana Suprun who was suspended from the post of acting Health Minister under a decision of Kyiv’s District Administrative Court, but he has no right to comment on the court decision.

“I would like to express my position as president regarding today’s court decision. I want to emphasize that, by law, I, as president, have no right to comment on the court’s decision. I want to emphasize that Mrs. Suprun has the full support of the President of Ukraine,” he said at the annual reception of member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine on Feb. 5.

Poroshenko said that he greatly appreciated what was done with Suprun, the government and parliament regarding healthcare reform. He also expressed gratitude to Suprun for assistance in introducing rural medicine in the country.

As reported, Kyiv’s District Administrative Court banned Suprun from serving as acting Health Minister of Ukraine under a claim filed by Verkhovna Rada deputy (Radical Party faction) Ihor Mosiychuk.

Kyiv’s District Administrative Court has said the reason for suspending Surpun from performing her duties as acting Minister of Health are her dual citizenship and exceeding the allowable time as acting Health Minister.

In particular, the court prohibited First Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Suprun to perform “any actions aimed at exercising the powers of the Minister of Health of Ukraine.” “At the same time, the defendant was not prohibited from exercising the powers that were delegated to her as deputy minister,” the court said.

The Cabinet of Ministers is concerned by the court decision and plans to challenge it as prescribed by law.
