President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel has paid special attention to the issue of the release of Ukrainian hostages, in particular, the need for the immediate release of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov, who has been on the hunger strike in the Russian colony for 95 days.

“Poroshenko paid special attention to the issue of the release of Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories and in Russia, in particular, the need for the immediate release of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov,” the website of the Ukrainian president said.

The president of Ukraine and the German Chancellor also discussed security issues related to the construction of the Nord Stream 2.

Poroshenko and Merkel discussed the situation in Donbas and further peacemaking efforts to ensure progress in the peaceful settlement in the east of Ukraine.

The two coordinated their positions before the meeting of the German Chancellor and President of the Russian FederationVladimir Putin.

Poroshenko and Merkel agreed on the schedule of subsequent contacts within the framework of the further development of the bilateral dialogue.
