Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko has said the country will continue to actively develop the strategic partnership with the U.S.

“The U.S. has remained a reliable and strategic partner of Ukraine on a bilateral level and within international organizations since the recognition of Ukraine’s independence. There is a truly democratic partnership between the two countries, in which the U.S. continues to provide invaluable practical assistance in the development of state institutions, civil society, market economy and strengthening the security of our country,” the congratulation of the Ukrainian president on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the U.S. reads.

Poroshenko said that by giving up a nuclear arsenal which was the third in the world and large amounts of conventional weapons, as well as reserves of highly enriched uranium, “Ukraine plays a historical role in strengthening global stability and non-proliferation regime.”

“We took difficult decisions, but Ukraine has adopted them, relying on the assurances and security guarantees of foreign partners, primarily the U.S.,” the president said.

The president particularly thanked the U.S. for their continued bipartisan support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the difficult period of Russian aggression and assured in Ukraine’s firm disposition to continue actively develop the strategic partnership with the U.S. aimed at deepening the all-round constructive cooperation in the political, security, economic and humanitarian spheres.
