President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will hold a bilateral meeting with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden on Jan. 15, 2017.

Poroshenko will meet with Biden in the framework of his visit to Ukraine, the presidential press service said on Jan. 12.

As reported, in early January Ukrainian media reported on the intention of Biden to visit Ukraine on Jan. 15. No other details were reported.

In turn, the head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs Hanna Hopko said that this visit is to draw conclusions, as Biden “is one of Ukraine’s friends.”

In December 2016 Poroshenko hold two telephone conversations with Biden. The interlocutors discussed the situation around the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Minsk agreements, a cease-fire regime and hostages’ swap.

“The leaders reiterated their strong support for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements and stressed the need to establish a full armistice, which would guarantee full access to the OSCE monitoring mission,” the U.S. president’s administration said.

Poroshenko and Biden discussed the progress of Ukrainian reforms and issues of cooperation between Kyiv and International Monetary Fund. The U.S. Vice-President highly praised the Ukrainian leadership’s efforts to stabilize the country’s banking system and the nationalization of PrivatBank.

Outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama on Jan. 11 held his last press conference. Administration of the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will take office after the inauguration on Jan. 20.
