You're reading: Poroshenko, Mogherini discuss initiative of deploying peacekeepers in Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini met in New York on September 19 in the framework of the UN General Assembly to discuss the situation in Donbas, in particular, the idea of introducing a peacekeeping mission and also coordinated positions ahead of the November summit in Brussels.

“The Ukrainian president briefed the high representative about the development of the situation in Donbas and the state of implementation of the Minsk agreements and about the initiative of Ukraine to deploy UN peacekeepers in the occupied Donbas, including in the uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian state border,” the press service of the Ukrainian head of state reported.

Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine counts on more efficient support of the EU in the issue of the release of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia and Crimea.

In addition, the interlocutors coordinated their positions ahead of the Eastern Partnership summit, which will be held in Brussels on November 24.
