You're reading: Poroshenko, Netanyahu confirm readiness to complete talks on Free Trade Agreement

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu in the framework of the 48th annual session of the World Economic Forum in Davos have discussed the issues of bilateral agenda and the ways to develop traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.

“The two officials agreed on the need to intensify economic cooperation between Ukraine and Israel. In this regard, the parties confirmed their willingness to complete negotiations on the conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Israel,” reads a report on the Ukrainian president’s website.

They also said they were happy with the positive dynamics of the Ukrainian-Israeli political dialogue at all levels.

Poroshenko invited Netanyahu to make an official visit to Ukraine at his convenience.

The Ukrainian president also thanked the Israeli PM for his country’s support of the UN GA resolution on Crimea in December 2017.

The two officials discussed the situation in Donbas and the need to deploy the UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied territories.

The Ukrainian president recalled the 85th anniversary of the man-made famine Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine will be commemorated in 2018 and said Kyiv expects Tel Aviv to recognize this tragedy as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

“In view of the commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan.27 in Ukraine and the whole world, Poroshenko expressed his solidarity with the commemoration of the victims of this terrible tragedy,” the statement reads.
