Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Finnish President Sauli Niinisto have discussed on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly the situation in Donbas, in particular, the initiative concerning the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission.

“Petro Poroshenko briefed his Finnish counterpart about the development of the situation in Donbas, the implementation of the Minsk agreements, and outlined his vision of the strategy of Crimea’s de-occupation. The two also coordinated the approaches to the possible deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission on the whole territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including the uncontrolled sector of the Ukrainian-Russian state border,” the press service of the head of the Ukrainian state said after the meeting of the two presidents.

The Ukrainian president also noted the importance of a coordinated position in order to counter the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

In addition, the two presidents discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Poroshenko welcomes the intentions of the Finnish business delegation to visit Ukraine in the near future. He also thanked the Finnish side for supporting projects in Ukraine in education and energy sectors.
