Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has expressed condolences to the family, friends and admirers of film director Kira Muratova due to her death.

“Sincere condolences to the family, friends and admirers of Kira Muratova’s creativity. She was a very talented film director, an epochal person. Her views on this world were applauded by critics. Her talent was noted at the most prestigious film festivals. Kirs Muratova will remain in our hearts,” Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page early on June 7.

Muratova died at the age of 83 in Odesa late on June 6, Ukrainian theater critic Oleg Vergelis said.

Muratova became famous after her first films “Brief Encounters” (1967) and “The Long Farewell” (1971).
