You're reading: Poroshenko orders to hatch action plan to develop Babi Yar national historical memorial preserve

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has created the organization committee for promising development of the Babi Yar national historical memorial preserve and approved its members.

The press service of the head of state reported that Poroshenko signed relevant decree No. 331/2017 on October 20, 2017.

The co-chairs of the organization committee are Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman and Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Ihor Rainin. It is planned that the co-chairmen of the organization committee can, if necessary, reshuffle committee members, form working groups, attract representatives of executive authorities, scientific institutions, public associations, as well as domestic and foreign scientists and experts to its work.

The Cabinet of Ministers is to ensure the designing of the action plan to develop the Babi Yar national historical memorial preserve based on the proposals of the organization committee and approve it in a three month period.

In particular, the Cabinet is to provide for holding an international contest of projects for the memorial complex of the preserve in accordance with the approved rules, to ensure the completion of work on clarifying the boundaries and zones of the reserve, to work out the possibility of their expansion, as well as the specification of the list of monuments and other objects located on its territory.

The issue of creating a museum of the history of Babi Yar and other objects for perpetuating the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the memory of the victims of other crimes committed by the Nazis during the occupation of Kyiv and Ukrainian towns against civilians, prisoners of war, members of the Ukrainian liberation movement should also be worked out.

The decree comes into force from the date of its publication.
