President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has instructed the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan and Head of Donetsk Regional Military and Civil Administration Oleksandr Kuts to restore the work of Mariupol airport.

“Today I am instructing the Chief of the General Staff, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Infrastructure and the head of the regional state administration to consider the issue of launching Mariupol airport,” Poroshenko said at a meeting of the Regional Development Council of Donetsk region in Mariupol.

Mariupol airport had to be closed due to the fighting in Donbas. In April 2016, the military liberated the airport building and in May it was planned to open it for passengers. But for safety reasons, flights to Mariupol have not yet been resumed.
