President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko pardoned 67 convicts in 2016, the Ukrainian Presidential Administration’s Chief of the Department for Pardon Affairs Oleksandr Bukalov said.

According to the press service of the president, Poroshenko pardoned 23 people by reducing the sentence, the rest were completely released from further serving their sentence.

There were eight convicts among the pardoned people who were convicted for committing a crime by negligence. A large number of pardoned convicts are elderly people.

“Virtually all the pardoned people have been convicted for the first time, although almost half of them had been serving significant sentences. All those pardoned are not repeated offenders and their pardon does not endanger the safety of Ukrainian citizens,” a message says.
