President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says he remains true to his promise not to send conscripts to the front.

“A few years ago I made a decision, and today I once again declare here, in front of your parents … that conscripts aren’t sent to the front. Once again I want to assure you of this and you, dear recruits,” Poroshenko said during the ceremony of official seeing-off of army recruits to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Mariupol, Donetsk Region, on Oct. 12 evening.

He stressed that the task of army recruits is to learn how to protect the state.

Poroshenko noted that almost 500 young men from Donetsk region would serve in the Armed Forces this year.
