Ukraine has significantly increased the share of nuclear energy in the overall energy balance of the country in recent years, President Petro Poroshenko said during a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on Feb. 16.

“I am pleased to report that we have dramatically increased the share of nuclear energy in the overall energy balance. It was 47 percent, now it is rapidly approaching the 60 percent mark. And this means millions of tons of coal, which Ukraine no longer needs,” Poroshenko said.

The president expressed confidence that these steps will allow achieving the desired result.
