You're reading: Poroshenko: After signing judicial reform bill new Supreme Court to be presented

After signing the bill on the completion of judicial reform that would launch the renewed Supreme Court the new judges of the Court will be presented, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

“I hope that in the coming days, when the bill on the completion of judicial reform is sent to me for signature, it will give us an opportunity to present a new composition of the new Supreme Court to society. It will consist of scientists, human rights activists and well-known lawyers…” he said during his visit to the 10th mobile detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in Bortnychi (Kyiv) on Friday.

The head of state said that “this will be a qualitatively new stage in ensuring judicial protection of the interests of Ukrainian citizens.”

As reported, on October 3, the Verkhovna Rada passed at second reading bill No. 6232, which will ensure the functioning of the new Supreme Court as a single cassation institution and also regulate procedural mechanisms in courts.

One of the main innovations of the law is the definition of the Supreme Court as a single cassation body in Ukraine and the introduction of the new rules for the Supreme Court to hear lawsuits.
