Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has stood up for Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva he appointed.

According to deputy head of the presidential administration Dmytro Shymkiv, the head of state voiced his position at a meeting of the National Reforms Council on October 26: all the members of the National Reforms Council supported the NBU head.

“Poroshenko drew attention to the sad situation we observe with the communications campaign against National Bank Head Valeriya Gontareva,” Shymkiv said.

According to him, members of the National Reforms Council condemned “the public harassment” of Gontareva.

“Amid the hybrid war being waged against our country, [such a campaign] is one of the destabilizing factors… This is unacceptable,” he stressed.

According to him, the published materials were made-to-order: their publication affects the NBU’s activities. “The customers are known and their goal is to destabilize the banking system of Ukraine,” he said.
