Ukraine should reduce the share of nuclear fuel purchases from Russia to 45 percent in 2017, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

“How much have we received [nuclear fuel from Russia] in 2016 – it’s 55 percent already. How much did I set the task for Mr. Minister [Ihor Nasalyk] in 2017. It’s 45 percent already,” he said during his visit to Trypilska combined heat and power plant (CHPP) in the town of Ukrainka in Kyiv region on June 8.

According to Poroshenko, the diversification of sources of nuclear fuel supplies for Ukrainian nuclear power plants is an important goal for ensuring the country’s energy security.

As reported, Ukraine in January-March purchased nuclear fuel to the tune of $121.458 million.
