Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has told NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a meeting in Brussels that Ukraine is interested in further promoting cooperation with the alliance.

Poroshenko “reaffirmed Ukraine’s interest in further deepening cooperation with NATO through the efficient use of the relevant annual national programs and NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine,” the Ukrainian presidential press service said.

Ukraine is continuing to pursue a Euro-Atlantic integration course stipulated at the legislative level and is consistently reforming its security and defense sector in keeping with NATO standards, he said.

“President Poroshenko thanked Secretary General Stoltenberg for his clear position on keeping the alliance’s doors open to the countries meeting the necessary requirements,” it said.

Stoltenberg said in reply that partnership with Ukraine is reliable and strong, it said.
