Ukraine is ready for further steps to obtain the second tranche of macro-financial assistance from the European Union, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said.

“The time has come to talk about pragmatic and new goals in relations between Ukraine and the EU,” Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis in Brussels.

According to him, Ukraine has already made specific proposals on how to deepen sectoral integration, in particular in trade and energy markets, in the sphere of law and freedom.

“We have fulfilled the conditions for granting the first tranche, and today we’ve discussed the next step, which is extremely important for the next tranche. We also discussed the implementation of the Association Agreement, which is a powerful impetus for reforms,” Poroshenko said.

Dombrovskis, in turn, noted that this week the EU has provided Ukraine with €500 million macro-financial assistance, which is half of the macro-financial program.
