The role of diplomats in wartime is no less important than the role of the military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced on Aug. 26.

“For me, there is a principled position – we, our diplomatic service, have to work as a military unit today. The president has two wings – the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for which he is responsible in accordance with the Constitution, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and the diplomatic service. Soldiers of the diplomatic service who, in war conditions, play an equally important role as the Ukrainian army,” Poroshenko said during a meeting with heads of diplomatic missions of Ukraine abroad during a working visit to Donetsk region.

Poroshenko added that he counts on diplomats, first of all, in the issues of peace, unity of the world and solidarity with Ukraine.
