Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said during his visit to Brussels he will seek the extension of EU’s anti-Russian sanctions taking the so-called “Azov package” of sanctions into account.

Before the departure to Brussels Poroshenko said important events have been scheduled in Brussels. “This is also a decision, which was quite doubtful six months ago that anti-Russian sanctions would be extended. Now I have firm intentions as we have a more than convincing argument that sanctions will be continued. We should make them sure that the ‘Azov package’ will be considered and taken into account,” the Ukrainian president said.

He said he hopes that Russia will be held accountable “for an act of aggression against Ukraine and the attempt to occupy the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, as has earlier been reflected in the U.S. Congress resolution.”

This is precisely what will be a topic of his talks in Brussels, Poroshenko said.
