The Constitution is not a “buffet,” it works as an integral legislative body, “higher interests” cannot be an excuse for violating it, fifth president, leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko said.
“The anniversary of the Constitution is for the people, and for the authorities, it means only one thing – time to report […] Unfortunately, the authorities do not consider it necessary to report and this does not add optimism, since the authorities have nothing to report with, the authorities violate the Constitution,” the European Solidarity press service provides Poroshenko’s words after the solemn meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.
Poroshenko said that Article 107 of the Constitution “clearly states that the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine is an advisory, control and coordination body.”
“According to the Constitution, it cannot do anything that Zelensky is trying to do today, and even more so, it cannot be applied to Ukrainian citizens,” the fifth president said.
He also criticized the initiatives of the Servant of the People regarding the fact that the decisions of the National Security and Defense Council cannot be appealed to by citizens of Ukraine through the courts.
“Article Two, which notes the inviolability of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of our state. It seems to me, that some advisers of Volodymyr Zelensky did not read it, because they are going to destroy our sovereignty through a referendum, destroy our territorial integrity – either for reasons of incompetence or for reasons of disrespect for our state […],” Poroshenko said.
The party leader also said that “the Constitution is not a ‘buffet’ where you can come up, choose the second or third article, but don’t read Article 106, where the president’s rights are limited.”
“The Constitution is valuable because it works only as an integral legislative base state organism, the foundation of the statehood of Ukraine. And therefore, the value of the Constitution lies in the fact that all articles should work there simultaneously. Including those that were introduced during my cadence, and the main thing is that all state authorities must make every effort to move our country, to integrate into the EU and the North Atlantic Alliance,” the fifth president said.
