You're reading: Poroshenko’s motorcade hits 87-year-old pedestrian in central Kyiv (VIDEO)

One of the cars of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s motorcade hit a pedestrian as it drove through central Kyiv on March 6, according to media reports from the scene.

The pedestrian, an 87-year-old man, suffered a broken leg and concussion. He was hospitalized, according to the police.

The incident happened at 11:45  a.m. at the junction of Shovkovychna and Instytutska Streets, just some 400 meters away from the Presidential Administration building on Bankova Street.

According to the Glavkom news outlet, the car remained at the scene while the rest of the motorcade drove off after the accident. Glavkom reported that the car sustained an impact dent on its hood.

Surveillance camera footage from the scene shows the man being hit by the vehicle while running across Institutska Street. The junction has traffic lights but they were turned off and a police officer was directing traffic.

The police said that the man had crossed the road at the wrong time, when the officer was indicating that pedestrians should stop.

The Presidential Administration press service had no comment on the incident and referred the Kyiv Post to the National Police.
