KYIV/KHARKIV – The chief of Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University has been detained by military prosecutors. He is suspected of embezzling Hr 2.4 million during fuel and lubricant procurement, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said.

“The military prosecutor’s office detained Head of Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University Major General Andriy Alimpiev suspected of embezzling Hr 2.4 million in favor of two limited liability companies during procurement of fuel and lubricants. We will ask (the court) to arrest him and suspend from the post,” he wrote on his Facebook page late on Friday.

Alimpiev has been head of the university since late October 2015.

“General Alimpiev is a battle-hardened general who has shown himself not only in an educational institution, but also performing combat tasks while serving in the Armed Forces,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said, presenting Alimpiev to the servicemen after the publication of an order on his appointment.
