You're reading: Prosecutor’s office says indictment against kidnapper of child in Kyiv sent to court

The indictment against the kidnapper of a two-month-old child in Kyiv has been sent to the city’s Obolonsky District Court, the press service of the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office has reported.

“Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office No. 5 has completed the pre-trial investigation and sent to court the indictment against a 20-year-old female resident of Kyiv on charges of kidnapping a minor child,” the prosecutor’s office reported on Friday, February 23.

The report notes that the incident occurred on October 20, 2017. The perpetrator secretly kidnapped from a kindergarten in the Obolonsky district of Kyiv a two-month-old child who was left by the father near the kindergarten.

“The next day, thanks to the help of citizens and the operational work of the Obolonske police department, the kidnapper of the child was detained in the village of Novosilky in Vyshgorod district, Kyiv region. The infant was returned to the parents in a satisfactory condition,” the press service added.

The actions of the perpetrator were qualified according to Part 2, Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

During the pre-trial investigation, the suspect admitted her guilt in committing the crime.

“Following the pre-trial investigation, on February 22, 2018, the indictment against the kidnapper was sent to the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv for consideration on the merits. She faces up to five years of imprisonment,” the prosecutor’s office said.
