Ukraine may return to the idea of deploying a UN peacekeeping contingent in the temporarily occupied territory of Donbas if all the possibilities of the Minsk accords are exhausted, said Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko.

“Our team is trying to do everything within the framework of ‘Minsk,’ and when we realize that we can’t talk about anything new within the framework of ‘Minsk’ and Russia is against on almost every provision, then we will do the next step … this will be not my decision, but the president’s decision … there will probably be a peacekeeping mission. And we have such an opportunity,” he said during the Savik Schuster’s Freedom of Speech program on TV Channel Ukraina on Friday evening.

He recalled that the Ukrainian side hadn’t formally applied to the UN for the introduction of a peacekeeping mission, but such a proposal came from the Russian Federation. Prystaiko emphasized that it does not suit Ukraine, since Russia proposes to deploy a peacekeeping contingent only along the line of contact.
