You're reading: Prystaiko sets task to fundamentally advance in resolving Donbas war during 6 months

Vadym Prystaiko, the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, aims to make significant progress in resolving the conflict in Donbas within six months.

“As you know, the president suggested a number of compromise steps, primarily aimed at restoring ties with our own people, which turned out to be beyond the line of contact. At the cost of considerable effort, the process of exchanging prisoners was restarted, communications are being restored in Stanytsia Luhanska. We are restoring infrastructure and providing social payments, work is underway to create an effective information resistance system, and I want to believe that these steps, with the support of the international community, will make it possible – open a new page in the peace process,” he said, speaking in parliament on Aug. 29.

Prystaiko noted that if the peace process continues, Ukraine will think about the next steps.

“The modality of returning people to a peaceful life, holding elections, amnesty, removing trade restrictions, restoring control over our borders are our next steps. Now it’s not so important how we will do it: either by attracting peacekeeping missions or by fulfilling Minsk Agreements. Another thing is critically important: we have six months to do this. I am aiming the diplomatic service for this six-month period,” he stressed.
