You're reading: Rada committee backs president’s proposal on dismissing all CEC members

The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Committee on Governance Organization has recommended that the Rada support the president’s proposal on the early termination of the powers of all Central Election Commission (CEC) members.

The committee made the decision at a meeting on Sept. 11, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

Alina Zahoruiko of the Servant of the People faction said the Rada could consider President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal on terminating the CEC members’ mandates on Sept. 12 if the committee supported the decision.

The Rada received the president’s proposal on Sept. 9, Zahoruiko said.

Oleksandr Kachura, also a member of the Servant of the People faction, said the president’s proposal was motivated by the fact that, during the past election campaign, the CEC unlawfully cancelled the registration of some Servant of the People candidates.
