The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has put together a permanent delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
“The delegation has been formed,” Iryna Gerashchenko (the European Solidarity faction), a member of the Rada Foreign Policy Committee, told Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Sept. 10.
The delegation comprises 12 members and 12 deputy members. Specifically, 14 of them (7 members and 7 deputies) belong to the Servant of the People faction, and two each belong to the Opposition Platform – For Life, Batkivschyna, European Solidarity, Holos (Voice), and the group For Future.
The delegation members have so far not elected its head, member of the Foreign Policy Committee Maria Ionova (European Solidarity) told Interfax-Ukraine.
The previous Rada delegation left the spring session of PACE as a sign of protest against the Assembly’s decision to reinstate the Russian delegation’s credentials. Russia had not participated in PACE’s sessions for several years after its credentials were restricted following the events in Crimea in 2014.
