You're reading: Rada ratifies agreement with Poland on defense cooperation

The Verkhovna Rada has ratified a general agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Poland on cooperation in the field of defense.

Some 230 MP’s voted for corresponding draft law (No. 0145) on Sept. 6.

The agreement provides for cooperation between the two countries in the defense field in 24 areas, in particular military communications and the information system, research for the needs of the armed forces, military infrastructure, development, modernization, manufacturing and supply of defense equipment, cooperation in the defense industry, sphere of military training, military medicine and others.

At the same time, cooperation is envisaged in various forms, in particular in the form of the exchange of information and documentation, joint technical programs for the development of weapons and equipment, bilateral and multilateral military exercises, in the form of free transfer and donation of weapons, dual-use goods and non-combat military equipment, as well as in other formats.

The agreement also provides for the format of cooperation in the event of an emergency, natural catastrophe or martial law in one of the countries. In this case, the other party can provide assistance in the form of weapons, dual-use goods, technical and advisory assistance.

The agreement will enter into force 30 days after receiving the last of the diplomatic notes by the parties. The Agreement between the Defense Ministries of Ukraine and Poland on military cooperation dated 1993, as well as a number of protocols signed between the departments, will become invalid the next day after the the new agreement comes into force.
