You're reading: Parubiy: Rada should consider Electoral Code no later than October

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy says that the Electoral Code should be adopted by the Parliament one year prior to the parliamentary elections, that is, not later than October 2018.

“I believe that the Electoral Code should be adopted one year before the parliamentary elections. So, I think that it should be put on the agenda in September, in October, if that,” he said at a final press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

The speaker predicts that “it will not be easy to find votes” in the hall for the adoption of the bill on the Electoral Code at the second reading and in general. “But I have great hopes that we will be able to find 226 or more votes,” he added.

According to the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, consideration of the draft law may take many days due to the large number of amendments.

As it is known, the next elections of parliamentarians will be held on the last Sunday of October 2019.

As reported, on November 7, 2017 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported at the first reading the Draft Election Code of Ukraine (bill No. 3112-1) by a group of parliamentarians headed by Speaker of Parliament Parubiy.
