Leo, a restaurant located on 4 Volodymyrska St. in central Kyiv, was attacked with a grenade launcher early March 8, according to the National Police spokesman Yaroslav Trakalo. No injuries were reported.

The incident happened at 2:37 a.m., when an unknown person allegedly fired at the restaurant’s front, igniting a fire. According to the official statement, an area of 50 square meters was set on fire, with parts of the building’s mansard roof damaged in the explosion. Also, according to Espresso TV channel, the blast smashed the building’s windows.

Several fire crews attended the scene to douse the flames. It is not known how many people if any were in the open restaurant at the time.

“Police questioned the venue’s staff and took surveillance cameras footage, which showed an unknown person approaching the restaurant and firing with a grenade launcher,” the National Police press service said on its website on March 8. “The launch tube was found just outside the restaurant.”

Photos from the scene published on the police website appear to show a Soviet PRG-22 man-portable anti-tank rocket launcher , which is still used by Ukraine’s Armed Forces but also commonly illegally used by criminal organizations in many former-Soviet countries.

Police have opened a criminal case on intentional destruction of property.
