Reuters: Ukrainians turn ammunition into art to depict horrors of war

Ukrainian artists Daniel Green and Daria Marchenko (unseen) well known for their portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin made from bullet shells, show their artwork called "The Brain of War" in front the paintings called "Honour"(L) and "The heart of the war" during the presentation of five new creations under the title "The evolution of dictate" in their small apartment-studio in Kyiv on September 22, 2016. The artists used cartridge cases -guns, sniper rifles, fragments of missiles "Grad", mortar shells- and shoulder straps of countries who guaranteed Ukrainian security under the Budapest Memorandum - Ukraine, Russia, the United States, Britain, China, France.

For two Ukrainian artists seeking to portray the civil conflict in their country, paint and canvas were not enough and they chose to make pictures and sculptures out of the materials of war: bullets, shell cases and shrapnel.

“You cannot describe what is going on on the front line, what is going on in Ukraine, just with paint,” said Daniel Green, co-creator with Daria Marchenko of the art works that will soon be touring the United States.
