The Rivne Nuclear Power Plant’s energy unit No. 3 has been disconnected from the power supply system at 11:54 p.m. local time on Jan. 18, the press service for Ukraine’s Energoatom state corporation said.
“Stop valves were set down, the TG-5 turbine generator was disconnected from the power supply and the capacity of the reactor plant of the Rivne NPP’s unit No. 3 was reduced to 37 percent as part of technological protection shutdown,” it said.
A commission is addressing this matter.
“The radiation, fireproof and environmental status at the industrial site and the territory adjacent to the Rivne NPP is within the existing norms and has not changed. The energy unit No.1 is undergoing a planned overhaul, the units Nos. 2 and 4 are operating at full capacity,” Energoatom said.
The Rivne NPP is located in the city of Varash in the northwest of Ukraine’s Rivne region. The NPP is using four energy units with total capacity of 2,935 MW: the unit No.1 with the VVER-440 reactor and the capacity of 420,000 kW since 1980, the unit No. 2 with the VVER-440 reactor and the capacity of 410,000 kW since 1981, the unit No.3 with the VVER-1000 reactor and the capacity of 1 million kW since 1986, and the unit No. 4 with the VVER-1000 reactor and the capacity of 1 million kW since 2004.
