You're reading: Russia blocks issue of checkpoints opening in Luhansk region

The Russian side in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on the settlement of the conflict in Donbas has once again blocked the issue of opening and further work of Zolote and Schastia checkpoints on the contact line in Luhansk region, the Ukrainian delegation said after a meeting to participate in the TCG on Tuesday, March 2.

“In the humanitarian subgroup, the Russian side again blocked the issue of opening the checkpoint operation on its part, despite the successful passage of the UN humanitarian aid convoy, which took place at Schastia checkpoint on March 1 and showed its full readiness to pass cargo and passengers,” the Ukrainian delegation said on Facebook.

It is also noted that the initiatives proposed by head of the Ukrainian delegation Leonid Kravchuk, namely the provision of passenger transport (buses) by Ukraine for the transportation of passengers to Schastia and Zolote checkpoints, as well as other technical conditions for the start of stable operation of checkpoints, “do not leave arguments to the Russian side that could justify its delay in unblocking the work of the checkpoint on its part and admitting Ukrainian citizens to receive administrative services and financial assistance.”

According to the Ukrainian delegation, the negotiations within the political subgroup and the security subgroup ended in vain.
