You're reading: Russia proposing to extend OSCE SMM mandate in Ukraine

MOSCOW – The mandate of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Special Monitoring Mission (OSCE SMM) to Ukraine should be extended by another 12 months after its expiry on March 31, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“We are calling for the SMM mandate to be extended by another 12 months and its staff to continue fulfilling their mission. We hope that soon after that it will be possible to find mutually acceptable solutions to the remaining unresolved financial and staff issues,” the ministry’s information and press department said on March 29 evening commenting on the situation around mandate extension for the OSCE SMM which has worked in Ukraine since March 2014.

The current mandate expires on March 31.
