You're reading: Russian Border Guard Service hopes border guards detained in Ukraine to be returned home soon

MOSCOW – The Russian Federal Security Service’s (FSB) border guard department for the Republic of Crimea confirmed that two Russian border guards had taken a wrong route and entered the territory of Ukraine, where they were detained.

“Two employees of the department had taken a wrong route and entered Ukraine, where they were detained by representatives of the neighboring state’s border guard service, during drills on the Russian-Ukrainian border near the town of Armiansk overnight from June 29 to 30, 2017,” the FSB department said.

“The issue of the Russian border guards’ return is being addressed involving border commissioners of Russia and Ukraine,” it said.

“We hope that in accordance with provisions of the international legislation the employees of the FSB Border Guard Service will be returned to the Russian Federation in the near future,” it said.
