You're reading: Russian Defense Minister says rail line bypassing Ukraine to be ready by September 2017

MOSCOW – A rail line bypassing Ukraine is due to be ready by September 2017, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at an expanded meeting of the ministry’s board on Dec. 22.

“Track has been laid over 23 of 84 kilometers,” he said.

“We expect to finalize the construction by September 2017,” the minister said.

The Railroad Forces are building the Zhuravka-Millerovo bypass around Ukraine.

“The earthwork is ready; it amounted to nine million cubic meters,” Shoigu said.
