MOSCOW – It is too soon to talk about signing a new gas transit contract with Ukraine as the existing one is still valid 3.5 years, Deputy Russian Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week forum.

“We have signed a contract until the end of 2024. It’s too soon to talk about this as there are more than 3.5 years to go before this contract is up,” he said.

Novak said he had already met with Georg Graf von Waldersee, the German government’s Special Commissioner for the transit of gas through Ukraine, on the sidelines of the forum.

“I don’t think we should make our talks public. We are having consultations. I am meeting with Special Representative von Waldersee. We are in consultation on this, as a matter of fact,” he said.
