Aug. 26

Serhiy Voiter, 38, a soldier of the 58th brigade from Poltava Oblast. He had been serving in the army for three years, and took part in battles for Debaltseve and Ilovaisk. He was badly wounded on Aug. 19 near Krymske village in Luhansk Oblast and died later in a Kharkiv city hospital. He leaves his mother, wife and a daughter in Lubny, Poltava Oblast.

Aug. 25

Oleh Popov
, 20, a soldier of the 59th brigade from Kirovohrad Oblast. He was badly wounded late on Ukraine’s Independence Day on Aug. 24 when Russia-backed fighters opened fire on Ukrainian army positions near the village of Talakivka, 19 kilometers north from Mariupol. Popov died on the way to hospital. He leaves his family in Kirovohrad Oblast.

Aug. 21

Denys Glova, 28, a soldier of the 72nd brigade from Kyiv Oblast. He was mobilized to the army in 2015 and then returned to the war front in March. He was killed during a mortar attack on Avdiyivka. “He was very polite man. Hardworking and fearless. It’s a big loss, all the soldiers are grieving now,” one of the commanders of the 72nd brigade, Roman Kovalenko, was quoted as saying. He leaves a mother.

Aug. 19

Oleksandr Boiko
, 35, a recon team commander of the Ukraine’s National Guard from Khmelnytsky Oblast. He was declared missing back in June near the villages of Katerynivka and Zolote in Luhansk Oblast. On Aug. 12, Artem Shevchenko, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, said that Boiko’s body had been found and transported to Severodonetsk. “He was an example to follow,” one of Boiko’s fellow soldiers, who identified himself as Serhiy, was quoted as saying during the funeral. Boiko leaves a wife and a daughter.

Aug. 16
Serhiy Ruchka, 36, a soldier of the 72nd brigade from Kyiv Oblast. His fellow soldiers recall that Ruchka was “always there to help” and fought fearlessly. He was badly wounded at night near the city of Avdiyivka in Donetsk Oblast. The soldiers of his unit rushed to him to give first aid and transport to hospital, but Ruchka had died instantly. He leaves a wife and a 13-year-old daughter in Kyiv Oblast.

Aug. 15

Oleksandr Zhuyevych, 39, a soldier of the 59th motorized brigade from Odesa Oblast. He signed a contract with the army in March 2016. Zhuyevych was killed when Russia-backed separatists opened fire on Ukrainian army positions in Shyrokyne, close to coastal city of Mariupol. He leaves his parents.

Aug. 12
Ivan Storchak, 21, a soldier of the 59th brigade from Ternopil Oblast. He signed a contract with the army in February. He was killed by a sniper near the village of Vodyane in Donetsk Oblast. Storchak leaves a mother, two sisters and three brothers.

Valeriy Fedan, 20, a soldier of the 72nd brigade from Zaporizhzhya Oblast. Fedan signed a contract with the army in early 2016. He was killed by mine shrapnel near Avdiyivka in Donetsk Oblast. He leaves his grandmother in the village of Lyubymivka.

Aug. 10

Ihor Shapoval, 42, a soldier of the 57th motorized brigade from Poltava Oblast. In 2015, Shapoval graduated from National Academy of Internal Affairs and worked as a detective for ten years. He was mobilized to the army in 2015 and served for a year with the 42nd motorized battalion. He returned to the war front after demobilization. Shapoval was killed when a separatists-planted mine exploded near the village of Pisky in Donetsk Oblast. He leaves a wife and an 11-year-old daughter in the city of Kremenchuk.

Aug.9

Kostyantyn Roma, 21, a soldier of the 59th brigade from Poltava Oblast. He volunteered to the army when he was 18 and served mainly in Pokrovsk town of Donetsk Oblast. Roma was badly wounded in a stomach during shelling of the village of Vodyane in Donetsk Oblast. He died on the way to hospital. He leaves his parents, a wife and a newborn son.

Volodymyr Zeilyk, 21, a soldier of the Donbas Battalion from Lviv Oblast. He was mobilized to the army as soon as he graduated from high school. At first, Zeilyk served in the town of Kamianka-Buzka in Lviv Oblast and then signed a contract with the army and joined the Donbas Battalion. He was a military driver. Zeilyk was killed during the shelling of Maryinka when a mortar malfunctioned and blew up in front of him. Zeilyk’s friend, Ivan Kuza, was quoted on Channel 5 on Aug. 11 as saying during the funeral that three weeks before his death, Zeilyk had come home for a couple of days. “He was so joyful then, we talked a lot and he said that he’ll be home again soon. I wouldn’t have thought it would be that soon,” Kuza said. Zeilyk leaves his parents and a younger brother.

Viacheslav Ivanushkin, 30, a soldier of the Donbas Battalion from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. He worked as an electric and gas welder before he volunteered for the army in November 2016. He was killed during a shelling attack on Maryinka in Donetsk Oblast. Ivanushkin leaves a wife and a 7-year-old son in Kryvy Rih.

Aug. 8

Oleksandr Rohovy, 36, a soldier of the Donbas Battalion from Kharkiv Oblast. He was killed during shelling of Ukrainian army positions near the town of Maryinka, a front line city in Donetsk Oblast.

Aug. 1

Rostyslav Dobroshynsky, 20, a soldier of the 10th brigade from Khmelnytsky Oblast. He had been serving in the army since 2015 and was wounded in fighting near Mariyinka in Donetsk Oblast. After treatment, he returned to front-line duty. His fellow soldiers say he was a cheerful young man. He was badly wounded near the village of Novozvanivka in Donetsk Oblast and died 40 minutes later. A bullet badly damaged his lungs. Dobroshynsky leaves his parents in Khmelnytsky Oblast.

Ivan Nosach, 43, a soldier from Cherkasy Oblast. He was killed by a sniper near the village of Vodyane in Donetsk Oblast. Nosach leaves a wife and two teenage children. “Everyone could tell you how hardworking and talented he was,” media quoted Lyubov Bakalyna, a local official, as saying about Nosach.
