TBILISI – Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is now in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, has called on his Georgian fellow party members from the United National Movement (UNM) to start talks with other parties to nominate a single candidate from the opposition in the upcoming presidential election in October.

“We must return to power in 2018. How shall we do this? We must win the presidential election and, amid this, bring down Ivanishvili’s regime [Bidzina Ivanishvili, a former prime minister, billionaire, whom the opposition considers to be the real ruler of Georgia], bring down his feudal court,” Saakashvili said in a video address to the UNM members, which was distributed by the Georgian media.
