Several thousand supporters of former Georgian President, and current governor of Ukraine’s Odesa region, Mikheil Saakashvili, held a rally as part of the concluding election campaign in the city of Zugdidi in western Georgia on Monday.

Saakashvili’s wife and a majority deputy candidate of the Zugdidi district, Sandra Roelofs, said that she represented her husband today and he will surely return to Georgia in the coming days.

“If he has to dig a tunnel from Odesa to Sololaki [a district in Tbilisi], then he will do it and join us to celebrate the victory,” she said.

She said that she is taking her initial steps in politics and tries to take after her husband, but she has a long way to go, because “Misha knows everything that will happen in advance.”

Former Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili told reporters on Monday that he is skeptical about Saakashvili’s possible return home, where the he would have to face a trial in the court.

“Where will this unlucky man return? He is even afraid of getting stuck in an elevator. All these talks of Saakashvili’s return are needed for his team not to disband,” he said.

The parliamentary elections in Georgia will take place on October 8.
