Ex-Georgia President and ex-Odesa Regional Administration head Mikheil Saakashvili has refused the offer of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko to top the list of candidates for members of parliament (MP) from the UDAR Party.

“There were many thousands of comments on my video and I’ve heard you. Despite the fact that I believe that Vitali Klitschko made me a very worthy offer, we should not go to this union, because we have a clear ideology, a clear understanding. We have clear principles… We’ve never made any compromises to the detriment of our principles. The absolute majority of people who came to us through Facebook said that for them it would be a compromise about the principles. Therefore, naturally, we decline the offer,” Saakashvili said on Facebook on June 7.

He said he returned to Ukraine not to look for positions or to be in politics at any cost, but to help the country develop and change for the better.

He again thanked Klitschko for the proposal, and said the opinion of his supporters is more important to him.

As reported, earlier Saakashvili said his Movement of New Forces party will not be able to take part in early elections due to the fact that the party was registered to an unknown person. He called on other political parties to include them among their MP candidates.

Early parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held on July 21.
