The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has banned member of the Georgian parliament from the United National Movement Koba Nakopia from entering Ukraine for a period of three years, Ukrayinska Pravda online publication wrote on October 23 referring to the SBU’s response to its request.

“On October 12 of this year, the Security Service of Ukraine in the interests of ensuring the security of Ukraine and protecting public order adopted a decision to ban the entry into Ukraine for the Georgian citizen you named in the request for a period of three years,” reads the SBU’s reply, the scanned copy of which was published on the publication’s website.

According to the document, this decision was taken based on Article 13 of the Law of Ukraine on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons.

As reported, Nakopia is an ally of ex-president of Georgia, leader of the Ukrainian party New Forces Movement Mikheil Saakashvili.

He was detained at Boryspil Airport upon his arrival in Ukraine on October 15, and then was not allowed into the country. Then Ukrainian independent MP Yuriy Derevyanko published a scan copy of an order to refuse crossing the border to Nakopia dated October 15, based on a resolution of “an authorized state agency of Ukraine” on prohibiting entry to the country.
