Ukraine’s SBU Security Service has confirmed conducting searches of representatives of the pro-Russian public organization, including the mother of ex-Party of Regions parliament deputy Iryna Berezhnaya, SBU Spokeswoman Olena Hitlianska has said.
“The SBU is conducting a series of searches of members of the pro-Russian public organization in the framework of criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 109 and Part 1 of Article 110 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (high treason),” Hitlianska said, adding that Berezhnaya’s mother Olena is among those being searched.
Hitlianska said ex-Deputy Kyiv Mayor Iryna Kylchytska was not being searched.
The SBU’s press center said later on November 6 that criminal proceedings opened under Part 1 of Article 109 and Part 1 of Article 111 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. SBU agents are conducting a series of authorized investigative actions in Kyiv among persons suspected of assisting the special services of the aggressor country in the implementation of a plan to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine.
