The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officers have exposed a former officer of the National Police in Lviv, who, according to the investigation, in January organized the arson of the car of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist.

The press center of the SBU said on Aug. 17 that special service operatives established the location of the arsonist and detained him.

Thus, within the criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 27 (complicity in a crime) and Part 2 of Article 347-1 (deliberate destruction or damage to the property of a journalist) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the detainee was informed of suspicion.

Investigative actions are underway now.

As reported, the car arson of journalist of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Halyna Tereschuk occurred on the night of Jan. 30, in Lviv. Tereschuk has been working as a correspondent of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Lviv since 2000.

Law enforcement officers detained in Odesa the perpetrator of the crime, a 19-year-old resident of Khmelnytsky.

On February 7, the suspect in the car arson was placed under round-the-clock house arrest by the decision of Halytsky District Court of Lviv.
