You're reading: SBU expels Polish student from Ukraine for burnt national emblem of Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine has decided to forcefully return a Polish citizen to Poland, a student of one of the Ternopil universities for public burning of the stylized image of the small state coat of arms of Ukraine, and also banned him from entering Ukraine for three years, the Ternopil region police department has reported.

“Law enforcers have found that 19-year-old Polack, while relaxing with friends in the institution catering, publicly burned a stylized image of the small state emblem of Ukraine in the fireplace, which adorned the wall of the dining room. In the absence of the event of a crime in the foreigner’s actions and at the same time inconsistency of his further stay in Ukraine with security interests of our state, on March 12 the offender was forcibly returned to Poland with the ban to enter Ukraine for a period of three years,” liaison department of Ternopil police reported on March 13.

The information notes that the SBU employees made a decision on the forced expulsion from Ukraine of the said citizen of the Republic of Poland for committing hooliganism “which openly degraded the national honor and dignity of Ukrainians, and could lead to incitement of national hatred.”
