Former deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Viktor Yanukovych, lawyer Andriy Portnov, said that the Security Service of Ukraine had stopped criminal proceedings on high treason, where he appeared.

Portnov wrote about this in his Telegram channel, attaching a copy of the corresponding letter from the prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (ARC).

The letter indicates that the criminal proceedings on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason) were investigated by the investigation department of the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in the ARC.

On August 15, the investigator decided to close the criminal proceedings “in connection with the absence of a criminal offense.”

“During the pretrial investigation of the criminal proceedings, no one was informed of suspicion,” the letter said.

It was reported that Portnov appeared in criminal proceedings on high treason. The case was opened in February 2018. As part of the investigation, the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Crimea checked Portnov’s involvement in the preparation of documents that contributed to the occupation of Crimea.
